FUTURISTIC DRAGON

"Deep beneath an ancient shadow
Stunned with age and too much wisdom
Reclining in glass with eyes to steep
Relentless dimensions of quadraphonic sleep
Dwelt the wild grinding cyclopean pagan
Screaming destruction in sheer dazzling raiment
A thunderbolt master a 'lecronic' saviour
A gold galactic raver
The Futuristic Dragon"

Marc Bolan - Futuristic Dragon

Marc Bolan likes to use contrasts and here again he unites two mythical periods in time. Dragons are a special breed and it is said that even though they look cruel and act as such, bringing fear in the very soul of all living beings, they are of divine nature. They come from a time forgotten and legends were born from these memories related around camp fires. As for future, it isn't here yet and no one can really confirm its existence. Any description may, or may not, come to be.

So intuition is a very important quality in Marc Bolan's writings and this very line:
"Stunned with age and too much wisdom" is very significant. Many great civilizations have raised to a high standard of evolution and technology only to disappear one after the other in due course of time. Civilizations are like human beings. Man is born, grows from childhood to adulthood, reproduces himself, acquires wealth, knowledge and wisdom, and then grows old and dies. When civilizations attain a certain degree of comfort, men tend to think they are god-like and consider themselves as being the "chosen people". To make sure the rest of the world agrees with their higher philosophy, they do not hesitate to make war and eventually start the process of self-destruction. This has been going on since the beginning of time. At times, the other tribes of Danaan (Elves, Dwarves and Gobelins) along with the other 'mythical' creatures of this planet organize the various means to put an end to man's so-called supremacy. Among others, they create earthquakes, tidal waves, tornados, floods, droughts, famine and volcanos, "Screaming destruction in sheer dazzling raiment".

In the Hindu Scriptures, this is the duty of Lord Shiva. Ignorant people will fear Lord Shiva and his hordes of ghosts when time has come to destroy the three worlds, but he who has cultivated a humble knowledge and engaged himself on the path of self-realization knows that Lord Shiva is but a servant of God and as such, accomplishes a most sacred duty in destroying a world now become useless with its excesses and false pride. The wise man doesn't blame winter for covering the fields with snow for he knows spring will come and with it, a new beginning. Although empowered with a divine task, the divine Dragon, as does Lord Shiva Himself, eventually meets his supreme master: Krishna, the All-Attractive Supreme Personality of Godhead, or Allah, or Jehovah, whatever the name you prefer to call Him.

Thus, after having transmigrated in various bodies and roles in the numerous material universes, all living entities eventually regain their constitutional position in the spiritual world where everything is said to be
sat-cid-ananda: eternal, full of knowledge and bliss.
